How I Became the Ultimate Influencer

I didn’t even have to embarrass myself on social media to get there!

I don’t often feel excited about checking the mail. Credit card offers and mattress coupons don’t exactly get my blood pumping. But when I pulled the big packet from my mailbox, I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm. “Yay!” I said. “I’ve been waiting for this moment.” I ripped open the envelope — which wasn’t even addressed to me specifically, but rather “current resident” — and read the cover letter aloud:

Dear Nielsen Survey Participant,

A Voice for Your Community!

The Nielsen Community Survey is part of an ongoing effort to help local businesses understand their customers. In large part, decisions on how to best serve local customers are based on feedback from people like you. With this survey, you have the opportunity to contribute to the voice of your community by answering questions about the products and services you use most…

Your responses represent thousands of people in your area who were not invited to complete the survey.
